Springfield Blowing Through Snow Removal Budget

The city of Springfield is dealing with this winter as best it can, but it’s blowing through the snow removal budget and salt reserves are precarious.

Mayor Mike Houston told aldermen the city’s in the same position as a lot of other places in Illinois.

“Because of the rivers being frozen, salt has not been moving up the river,” said Houston. “Fortunately, there has been some passage in terms of the barges, we are expecting some salt this week.”

Houston says Public Works will likely go about $200,000 over budget for snow removal, but number moving amongst line items should get them through the winter.
