Springfield District 186 may be slashing millions from the next budget.

As school board members begin to wade through the numbers, high school teachers and special education programs could be on the chopping block.  Already, the district is facing a more than 4-and-a-half million dollar shortfall.  The board is not expected to take any action for several more weeks.

A grass-roots effort is underway to get voters to approve a property tax hike to shore up school finances.
