Queen Contest in Springfield This Weekend

Queen Contest in Springfield This Weekend

Seventy-two young women will be in Springfield this weekend for the Illinois County Fair Queen pageant.

Among the contestants is Miss Rock Island County Fair Queen Taylor Smith (left, with reigning state queen Amelia Martens). “I guess I’m a little nervous. I actually did a Disney internship, so I was away for a while, which I think kind of made my pageant director a little nervous, but honestly I think Disney prepared my really well, actually just talking to little kids and having to be so spur-of-the-moment with them about everything, making it really magical. I think it helped a lot, and based on interview questions, I think I’m gonna be pretty good at being on my toes and knowing what to say,” she said.

The 20 year old Smith is a student at Illinois College in Jacksonville.

Contestants arrived Thursday and the queen is crowned Sunday night. The winner reigns over this summer’s Illinois State Fair.
