Of the many artifacts being lent to the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum, one came from a Civil War veteran who came from central Illinois.

Museum employee Pat Russell was handed down a treasure from his grandparents.

“The saber in my family as I knew it, always sat under the couch at my grandparents. It was always one of those things we weren’t supposed to touch,” said Russell about the sword that belonged to his great-great-great-great grandfather.

The “Boys in Blue” series of exhibits begins its fourth year this weekend. This particular one-year exhibit will focus on what happened to Civil War soldiers after the fighting ended.
