Police Capture Man in SMTD, West Side Hotel Incident

Springfiefld Police captured a man suspected of smashing an SMTD bus window and darting into a hotel, prompting a brief evacuation of the Fairfield Inn. on Freedom Dr. on Tuesday.

Springfield Deputy Police Chief Dennis Arnold says Kyle Maxey, listed as homeless, was arrested in a yard in the 3500 block of Wexford Dr. in the Lincolnshire subdivision. Maxey faces a number of charges including obstruction of justice and criminal damage to property. Arnold says more charges will likely surface.

Arnold says Maxey ran out of the cornfields he’d been hiding in for a couple of hours around 2:00. No weapon was ever found.

Authorities were called around 11:30 Thursday morning after an Ashley Furniture employee reported she almost hit Maxey on her way to work; he was running across I-72.
