The south end of downtown Springfield could get a makeover if one organization can find the money.

The Community Foundation for the Land of Lincoln commissioned a local firm to see what Jackson Street could look like if it were converted in a pedestrian-friendly corridor.

“This is all the concept phase,” says the foundation’s John Stremsterfer. “It would not really change the vehicular traffic on most, all days as it is currently on Jackson Street. So I think there would still be through traffic in front of the Governor’s Mansion and there between 6th and 7th streets.”

Stremsterfer says the corridor would connect the Capitol complex to Lincoln’s home.  The foundation hopes the state, city and, local donors will contribute to the project.
