Park District May Seat New Director Soon

The designee to become the new executive director of the Springfield Park District  says his top priority will be to shore up the organization’s finances.  Interim Director Derek Harms will enter into negotiations with the park district board to take on the position permanently and says finances will be his number one priority if he is approved.

“Some of the biggest things we need to focus on are our financial position and righting the ship on some of that stuff” says Harms.

Previous executive director Mike Stratton resigned last year after an audit found park district funds were improperly spent.  Harms has worked for the district for a number of years as recreation director.  A vote is expected by the end of January.
