Many More Data Breaches Discovered

The Illinois attorney general’s office is responding to news that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has discovered the security of the electronic information of more than 1,000 businesses has been compromised.

It is proof that it is not just the major retailers which are vulnerable. “Government and health care; nonprofit entities” are also victimized, Lisa Madigan says. “Whoever stores people’s personal financial information, unfortunately, is under attack, and that is why it is so important for us as consumers and businesses to make sure that we have our defenses up, and that we are monitoring our accounts and our credit.”

Madigan says the preventive steps her office recommends are available for free, so beware of those offering to provide such services for a fee.
