Lawmaker: You Can’t “Pray Away the Gay”

Parents who don’t accept their kids’ homosexuality would no longer have the option of placing them into “conversion therapy,” under a bill being introduced in the Illinois House. State Rep. Kelly Cassidy (D-Chicago) says the practice is illegitimate to begin with, and she wants to make it illegal.

Cassidy says sexual orientation cannot be changed. What’s more, parents struggling with the situation could turn to such support groups as P-FLAG.

“Fundamentally, we need to love our children as they are brought to us,” says Cassidy. “I have three little boys, and I don’t know who they are going to be. I know they are going to be loved.”

The punishment for those who would practice “sexual orientation conversion therapy” would be administered by the review board of the applicable discipline.
