Two dozen supporters of immigration reform gathered outside the Sangamon County Building in Springfield Thursday.
The seemingly last-minute rally was meant to draw attention to what organizer Sonny Garcia says is President Obama’s broken promise to overhaul the way illegal immigrants are dealt with.
“We have a president who is deporting 1100 people every day. Over two million have been deported since he (Obama) took office. Our families and communities cannot take this anymore,” says Garcia.
Sangamon County Undersheriff Jack Campbelll says while they occasionally will house an ICE inmate, none are being held there now.
The crowd quickly dispersed after delivering a thank-you note to Durbin’s office thanking him for his support of immigration reform
