After more than a year hearing cases in Chicago, Illinois State Supreme Court Chief Justice Rita Garman says it is time her court returns home.

Unveiling a nearly $16 million make-over Wednesday, Garman says the Windy City treated her team well but is glad to be back in Springfield.

“We are very grateful and extend our sincerest thanks,” says Garman. “Our justices and staff are glad to be back home.  This is our home.”

Most contractors for the restoration of the building built in 1906 are based in Springfield.

Work included new heating and air conditioning, restoration of murals and woodwork, and work on the facade of the building that may be placed on the National Register of Historic Places.
