Buying shoes for growing kids is second nature to most families, but when your son grows into a size-16 basketball shoe, finding a pair is challenging and expensive.
Basketball star Andre Iguodala donated 60-pairs of brand new Nike shoes to some area students through his foundation Friday. His mother, Linda Shanklin says they often had to drive throughout the midwest to find shoes while her son was growing up.
“Driving outside Illinois, driving around the state, trying to find websites (that had his size) was hard,” Shanklin says.
She adds they sometimes had to decide what bills to pay to come up with the money for the huge footwear.
Iguodala is also sending the specially made shoes to schools in Philadelphia where the basketball star got his pro career started.
The presentation of the shoes was made at Green Toyota Friday afternoon.
