The state’s “Welcome Home Heroes” has helped hundred of veterans and their families realize the American Dream.  One Springfield veteran and his family were able to purchase their first home because of the program.

Jonas Harger  says without the financial assistance, he would not be able to put down roots in the community.

“It is a great and it is a great community. Working here in Sangamon County it helps me feel closer to the community now that I have vested interest in this town and we really appreciate the support” Harger says.

Governor Pat Quinn was in Springfield Wednesday to welcome the family into their house.  The program is administered by the Illinois Housing Development Authority and provides down-payment assistance, low-interest mortgages, and tax credit.
