Ethical Measures Hit Mass Transit

Ethical Measures Hit Mass Transit

A package of ethics-minded measures are in a recently signed bill sponsored by State Rep. Al Riley (D-Olympia Fields), chairman of the Illinois House Mass Transit Committee.

Part of why the measures – targeting Chicago area transit boards – are needed, Riley says, is because there seems to be a lot riding on getting a position on the board.

“I think that, over time, they’ve gotten insular,” he says, “and because those positions are coveted more for power rather than trying to deliver efficient services, they’ve kind of gotten away from what their initial charge is supposed to be.”

Measures include revolving-door provisions and reporting when an employment contract is in six figures.
