Elite Horse Show in Springfield This Week

More than 600 hundred show horses will be strutting their stuff this week.

The 73rd Annual Midwest Charity Horse Show kicked off Tuesday at the State Fairground’s Colesium and is expected to draw more than 2500 visitors to Springfield. Proceeds will again benefit area kids battling cancer.

“We support Camp COCO, and since the late 1980s, we have donated about $183,000 and will continue to donate all our proceeds to Camp COCO,” says show manager Judy Kjellander.

Kjellander says the quality of the horse facilities on the fairgrounds make Springfield a desirable destination for those in the industry.

The visitors and exhibitors from 33 states and 3 foreign countries are expected on the fairgrounds during the show which runs through Saturday. The annual event brings in more than $1.5 million to the local economy.

The show is held in the Colesuim and is free. Food and equipment vendors will be on hand for the event.
