Donating the Chair?

When Barack Obama builds his presidential library, Illinois legislators hope to donate furniture and other state-owned items linked to the president when he served in the state Senate.

The Illinois Senate Executive Committee on Wednesday passed a measure that would allow donation of a chair used by Obama. The chair is housed in Senate President John Cullerton’s office. Other Obama-related items are in storage.

In pushing passage of the measure, Cullerton said it’s better to donate the furniture than sell it. Alluding to imprisoned former Gov. Rod Blagojevich’s effort to sell the U.S. Senate seat Obama vacated in 2009, Cullerton joked someone tried selling his seat, “and it didn’t work out so well for him.”
