Update: NRI Hearing Postponed

Update: NRI Hearing Postponed

The Legislative Audit Commission voted 11-0 Thursday to comply with U.S. Attorney James Lewis’ request not to take testimony that might impede a criminal investigation of the Neighborhood Recovery Initiative.

Lewis assured the commission that he would not extend the 90-day respite he requested.  But that means the audit commission could begin questioning the seven witnesses it subpoenaed just weeks before Democrat Quinn faces voters in the November election.

The panel did ask all witnesses or the lawyers sent in their place to turn over documents related to the NRI, which the legislators say does not interfere with the federal investigation. They also unanimously voted to make all those documents available online to the general public.
