Business leaders are coming out for the Republican incumbent in an Illinois congressional race.

Illinois Chamber of Commerce executive vice president Todd Maisch says his group’s PAC, as well as the U. S. Chamber, are behind 13th District incumbent Rodney Davis (R-Taylorville).

“Our members really zeroed in on things that are important to employers in the 13th District, and, you know what? They line up with things that are important to Congressman Davis as well,” said Maisch, executive vice president of the state chamber. “Things like transportation, agriculture jobs, taxes, and health care.”

There are two other candidates in this primary, Michael Firsching of Moro and Erika Harold of Urbana. How seriously did the state and U.S. chambers take their candidacies? Hard to say, they didn’t respond to the chambers’ questions, says Ben Taylor of the U. S. Chamber.

Harold has the support of former Chicago Bears coach Mike Ditka, who phoned in support for a radio commercial.

There is also a three-way Democratic primary in the race in a district that is considered a tossup.

Celebrate safely with these fireworks tips

Since Independence Day falls during the work week, members of St. Richard Catholic Church celebrated the holiday on Sunday, June 30, 2013, with a picnic-style outing complete with fireworks that could be seen throughout the northeast Jackson, Miss. neighborhood.
