Hundreds of Springfield residents spent some time with the cops Tuesday night.

National Night Out was held throughout Springfield neighborhoods as a chance for children and their families to get to know the police that patrol their neighborhoods.  Police Chief Kenny Winslow says the annual event is key in building partnerships.

“We can’t do it alone.  We need the community support.  They are our eyes and ears. This is the one time of the year designed to stress the importance of that,” says Winslow.

Police played games with the kids in Enos Park, firefighters showed off their equipment and area churches banded together to put on an old-fashioned picnic.  Winslow says his officers look forward into getting out of their cars and meeting the people they serve.
