Its back to the work-a-day world for Sangamon County Undersheriff Jack Campbell.

Defeated by Wes Barr in the GOP primary for sheriff, Campbell says after a brief vacation, it will be time to return to his career.

“My job right now is to run the sheriff’s office as second in command and I intend to do that.  I have an obligation to the sheriff, and our employees, and the taxpayers.  If Wes has a question of me, I will be more than happy to answer his questions and help him in any way he would like help” says Campbell.

Campbell says he has no regrets in how he ran his campaign.  Barr won the contest 53 percent to 47 percent.  The undersheriff is not eligible to retire until 2016 and he says he’ll play whatever role the new sheriff assigns to him.

Campbell says he will begin to work with Barr in the campaign leading up to November’s general election to ensure the office remains in the hands of the GOP.

Barr faces Jeffrey Reagan in November.
