Brady Stands Alone on Pension Bill

State Sen. Bill Brady (R-Bloomington) is being hammered by his Republican rivals in the governor’s race for backing the pension reform law.

Brady is the only one of the four to support the law. State Senator Kirk Dillard (R-Hinsdale) voted against it, and maintains lawmakers rushed to get it passed.

“If I’ve learned one thing from Obamacare, it’s when they put a bill that’s about that thick, 350 pages, on your desk, you ought to read it before you vote on it, and we didn’t have that opportunity,” Dillard said.

Brady doesn’t buy that argument. “You can’t use the excuse you didn’t know it was in the bill,” Brady said. “We’re paid to examine bills, and everything that was in the bill had been discussed and drafted over the last two or three years.”

State Treasurer Dan Rutherford believes the law will be struck down as unconstitutional. Bruce Rauner says the law will not solve the state’s pension problem.
