Auburn Looks to Beef Up Police Force

As the city of Auburn grows, so too must its police force.

The city council is expected to approve the hire of one more full time officer and two part time dispatchers next week. Mayor Barb Stamer says current officers are working too much overtime and they’re left in the lurch when someone goes on vacation.

“We don’t have enough police officers to fill all those slots,” says Stamer. “The chief feels it’s very important that we do the best job we can to protect the citizens of Auburn.”

Stamer doesn’t know how much the new positions will cost, or if a staff this size is typical for a city like Auburn. She trusts the police chief has done his homework.
