A multi-jurisdictional operation has so far arrested more than 40 people accused of serious gun and drug charges, and about 30 more have warrants out.

The State’s Attorney’s Office, Springfield Police Department, Sangamon County Sheriff’s Department, U.S. Marshall Fugitive Task Force and Illinois State Police worked together on Operation Falcon. Charges levied include armed robbery, unlawful use of a weapon, mob action and manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance.

Sangamon County State’s Attorney John Milhiser says police were looking for Sangamon County’s heavy hitters.

“They are individuals that are dealing drugs in our community, individuals that are illegally possessing firearms, and these individuals are going to be prosecuted,” says Milhiser.

He wouldn’t say if he thinks any of those arrested are responsible for a recent spat of Springfield shootings, but he said the urgency of Operation Falcon ratcheted up during that time frame. The operation started before the shootings did.
